The Kingsmill Resort – River Course -Overall Empty Nester’s Guide (ENG) Rating 4.5/5.0
For more than three decades, The River Course has hosted the world’s best players on both PGA and LPGA tours. This course is better of the two eighteen holes.
Along the waterline of the James River, this championship course has precisely manicured greens, visually stimulating layout, and has playability factor. Although the River course is a more challenging of the two, I find it to be more playable not to mention enjoyable.
The course has been reborn thanks to the efforts of original architect Pete Dye. The renowned course designer tinkered just enough with his layout, bringing out the subtle details that make for a truly unforgettable round of golf.

Plantation Course – An Arnold Palmer Design

I personally did not like this course vis-a-vis the River course for many reasons. The course was not in great shape and the layout of the holes was not interesting enough. Once you play the River course, you will not want to go back to the Plantation course.
The Plantation Course is an Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay design that challenges players of all skill levels. The 6,432-yard, par-72 course favors accurate iron play and good putting.
Fairway landing areas are generous, but water comes into play on eight holes, and there’s no shortage of deep woods or yawning ravines. Greens are large and provide inviting targets for approach shots.
Gold Tee: 70.7/129 6,364 yards
Blue Tee: 68.9/125 5,978 yards
White Tee: 66.4/119 5,411 yards
Thanks to the unlimited golf package, I was able to play 36 holes a day for three days. For two people, including a large-size, one bedroom condo overlooking the James River, my three nights/four days with seven rounds of golf totaled little over $2,000.
